School-leavers invited to Curtin Sarawak ‘Course Decision Day’ on 17 March

Miri – 7 March 2012 – Form 5 school-leavers interested to enrol at Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) and wish to learn more about its Foundation and Diploma programmes are invited to attend a ‘Course Decision Day’ event from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm at the Imperial Hotel on 17 March 2013.

Curtin Sarawak offers Foundation in Engineering and Science and Foundation in Commerce and Arts programmes leading to various undergraduate programmes at the university upon completion.

The programmes are intensive, focused programmes that guarantee entry to the university upon successful completion. They provide students with a solid foundation to cope with tertiary education and aims to develop valuable skills such as interpersonal, presentation, writing, problem solving and critical thinking.

To further help potential students decide on the right courses to take, the Curtin Sarawak campus will be open every Saturday from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm throughout the month of March to enable those interested to pursue tertiary education at the university to attend course counselling or enrol for its March intake.

Staff of its Student Recruitment Department will be on hand to counsel potential students and their parents on the various pre-university, undergraduate and postgraduate courses available, as well as entry pathways and requirements, campus facilities and services, and financial aid and scholarships, to help them make informed decisions about studying at the university.

Meanwhile, enrolment for the March intake of its Foundation and Diploma programmes is now open. The Startup Week (orientation) and class commencement for the programmes will be on 19 March and 25 March 2013 respectively.

Curtin Sarawak has been preparing students for undergraduate study successfully since its establishment in 1999. Every year, almost 100 percent of its foundation students progress to its undergraduate programmes in engineering, science, commerce and arts.

A low student-lecturer ratio in classrooms means students enjoy a friendly school environment with individual attention and pastoral care. All the academic staff in the foundation programmes are highly qualified and dedicated to ensuring their students get the most out of their programmes.

Modern, diversified teaching methods are applied in the foundation programmes, which include workshops, introduction to research methods, modern laboratory projects, group projects, oral and multimedia presentations.

Students also enjoy advanced technological support such as a modern library, well-equipped laboratories, ample supplies of learning materials, Internet access and access to online resources at Curtin’s main campus in Perth, Western Australia.

Furthermore, the academic and personal support systems in place at the university, which include additional Teaching & Learning workshops, tutorials, and mentorship with lecturers, ensure that the students have the best opportunity to achieve their goals.

In addition to the Foundation programmes, Curtin Sarawak also offers diploma programmes in collaboration with the Central Gippsland Institute of TAFE (GippsTAFE) in Australia. The diploma courses available are in Business, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Process Plant Technology, and Occupational Health and Safety.
