School receives used flooring from Curtin Sarawak
Posted date:Miri – 19 September 2013 – The University Life Department of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) recently donated used flooring to Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang (KTDTHB).
The donation, which was part of the Department’s ongoing community outreach initiatives, was received by school principal Hashimah binti Abang Zen from University Life Officer Hazlinda Dollen. The used flooring was surplus following renovations to the Recreation Hall in the university’s Recreation and Event Centre last year.
The idea of donating the synthetic flooring, which was used for basketball and badminton and is still in relatively good condition, to a local school was mooted by civil and construction engineering student and a former student of KTDTHB, Lee Sii Kee. Lee is a handball athlete who has represented Miri in various handball tournaments and is currently a volunteer handball coach at his alma mater.
According to Lee, the concrete flooring of KTDTHB’s court can pose potential dangers to students during training and the used synthetic flooring donated by the university is more conducive for them.
