Visitors to Curtin Sarawak Open Day stand to win attractive lucky draw prizes

Miri – 4 September 2013 – Visitors to the Curtin Sarawak Open Day 2013 at the campus of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) on 14 September 2013 stand to win attractive lucky draw prizes worth over RM15,000.

The event will feature lucky draws offering hotel room and meal vouchers, electronic and electrical goods, hampers and premium merchandise throughout the day, as well as two Grand Prize Draws offering a return airfare on AirAsia to Singapore, Sony Bravia 32” flatscreen TV, Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 and iPad Mini each.

All purchasers of Door Gift & Lucky Draw tickets for the event are eligible for the lucky draws in addition to redeeming door gifts.

The tickets priced at RM5 each or RM50 per booklet are currently available from the university’s Student Council and Corporate Communications Department, as well as from the student clubs participating in the event. Members of the public can also purchase them on the event day at the Information, Tickets, Door Gifts and First Aid Booth near the main stage.

All proceeds will go to the charities taking part in the event’s ‘Charity & Community Corner’. They include Agensi Anti-Dadah Kebangsaan, Human Life Service, MRC Sunflower Centre, Mental Health Association, National Autism Society of Malaysia, Palliative Care Home Programme, Persatuan Ibu-bapa Kanak-kanak Istimewa and Pusat Permulihan Dalam Komuniti (PDK), PERYATIM, Piasau Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), Sarawak Children Cancer Society, and Sarawak Family Planning Association.

Curtin Sarawak Open Day 2013, with the theme ‘Make A Change Tomorrow and Make Tomorrow Better’, will be from 10 am to 5 pm and is open to the public.

The event will feature an ‘Innovation Expo’ showcasing how Curtin Sarawak is helping ‘make tomorrow better’ through innovation, its teaching and learning and research, and its holistic approach to education that ensures students are equipped with global knowledge and international experience.

There will also be a ‘Future Students Booth’ where potential students and their parents can learn more about Curtin Sarawak’s academic programmes, facilities and campus life.

Students and members of the public can also learn more through a series of academic talks by lecturers and an invited speaker from industry on topics relating courses at Curtin Sarawak, science, engineering, business and career opportunities in industry.

In addition, there will be a ‘Student Support Showcase’ featuring student clubs and departments of the university that provide student support and contribute to its vibrant campus life; an ‘Environmental Corner’ where the Miri City Council will showcase its green initiatives; and a ‘Charity & Community Corner’ participated by some 17 non-governmental organisations promoting their various causes.

In addition, there will be free health checks; a wide range of food and beverage, retail and games stalls; photography exhibition; an Ultimate Frisbee tournament, fishing competition, Melanau Tibou showcase, and live musical and stage performances, including a Miri Got Talentcompetition and Mr & Miss Curtin contest.

Children visiting Curtin Sarawak Open Day 2013 will delight in the ‘Kiddies Corner’ featuring clowns and cartoon character mascots, bouncy castles, and sand art for their enjoyment, as well as a colouring competition and spelling bee.

“Curtin Open Day is that special occasion each year when we would invite the community to visit our campus and participate in a variety of interesting activities in a festive and fun atmosphere,” said organising chairman Nicholas Leong.
