Miri – 23 September 2016 – The brightest minds from secondary schools in Miri were pitted against each other in the ‘Business Challenge for the Brightest Young Minds 2016’ organised by the Accounting Club Curtin Sarawak (ACCS) of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) recently.

The competition, held at the Curtin Sarawak campus, was supported by the university’s Faculty of Business and Marketing Department in line with its aim to educate students on the world of finance and investment.

The competition simulated real-life business challenges and exposed them to things like fund investments in the stock market, estates, properties and other assets.

Aimed at educating the students about the world of finance and investment, it simulated real-life business challenges and exposed them to things like fund investments in the stock market, estates, properties and other assets.

Guided by Curtin Sarawak accounting students, they learned to be more finance savvy and honed soft skills like teamwork, critical thinking and effective communication.

Organising chairperson Gan Pei Heng said that the success of the competition was due to the support of the participating schools, as well as from the university.

ACCS member Lai Chia Chie, meanwhile, said that being part of the organising committee was a great experience for her. “I am proud to be part of a team that’s committed to motivating secondary school students to pursue higher education,” Lai remarked.

Head of the Faculty of Business’ Department of Accounting Dr Ling Yew Hua said that the challenge was organised in line with the Faculty’s community outreach objectives.

“We hope that through such efforts, we will expose more students to the exciting world of finance and business and encourage them to pursue further studies in relevant fields. There is really a lot of opportunity out there and Curtin’s business courses are well-designed to ensure they are suitably qualified and job-ready when they graduate,” said Dr. Ling.
