Curtin Sarawak proudly hosting ‘Laugh with Harith Iskander’ show on 23 October

Miri – 13 October 2016 – Recently named as ‘Asia’s Best Stand-Up Comedian’ by Top 10 of Asia Award, the ‘Godfather of Stand-up Comedy in Malaysia’ Harith Iskander will be performing at Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) on 23 October 2016.

Organised by the International Students Association and Student Council, and supported by the management of the university, the ‘Laugh with Harith Iskander’ show, which Harith will be performing with fellow comedians Kavin Jay, Mukazir Xynll, and Sulaiman Azmil, will be held at the university’s Recreation and Event Centre, from 6pm to 11pm, is open to the public.

Harith, who is a proud alumnus of Curtin University, has performed live at hundreds of shows and entertained thousands of people with his unique and original performances since 1991. His comedy performances are in great demand and any company function is never complete without Harith inevitably bringing the house down.

The Curtin film and television graduate has never shied away from unfamiliar terrain. For years, he was literally Malaysia’s only stand-up comedian, with people often mistaking him for the emcee at events or complimenting him on his amusing ‘talk shows’.

In October 2014, Harith became the first Malaysian stand-up comedian to hold a show in a stadium – ‘Harith Iskander’s Laugh Malaysia’ – which saw over 9,000 people filling up Stadium Putra in Bukit Jalil and setting a record of sorts in the local stand-up comedy scene by being the biggest show ever in the history of stand-up comedy in Malaysia.

Speaking of stadiums, Harith can also boast being one of the acts at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur.

Just prior to ‘Harith Iskander’s Laugh Malaysia’, he embarked on a six-nation comedy tour titled ‘The Godfather of Malaysian Stand Up Comedy International Tour’ covering India (Chennai and New Delhi), South Korea (Seoul), Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia (Perth) and Indonesia (Jakarta).

This was not Harith’s first time performing in Australia though, as in 2012, he headlined the ‘Best of Malaysia Comedy Tour’ which included shows at both the Brisbane and Melbourne Comedy Festivals, as well as shows in Sydney.

The seasoned entertainer has also extensive experience in film, television, and even theatre as both actor and director.

According to Mfonido Ti Ukpabio of the Student Council’s International Sub-council, it is an honour for Curtin Sarawak to host a show by one of Curtin’s most accomplished Malaysian alumni. Others include best-selling author and international celebrity photographer Kid Chan and YouTube sensation Jin Lim a.k.a. Jinnyboy of JinnyboyTV fame.
