Curtin University achieves excellence in 2016 QS Subject Ranking
Posted date:Miri – 31 March, 2016 – Curtin University has again achieved outstanding results in the QS World University Rankings by Subject including a ranking of 19th in the world for Mineral and Mining Engineering, and 40th in the world for Earth and Marine Sciences.
Overall, Curtin was ranked in 18 subjects and ranked as a top 100 university in seven: Mineral and Mining Engineering; Earth and Marine Sciences; Architecture/Built Environment; Nursing; Chemical Engineering; Art and Design; and Education.
The University improved on its 2015 ranking in six subjects: Accounting and Finance, Business and Management Studies, Chemistry, Civil and Structural Engineering, Earth and Marine Sciences, and Geography and Area Studies.
Curtin’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said the ranking results are a testament to the University’s strong connections with industry, high quality research and wide range of innovative courses.
“The very strong rankings for Mineral and Mining Engineering and Earth and Marine Sciences were pleasing, as was the breadth of areas in which we are ranked as a top 100 university,” Professor Terry said.
“Curtin continues to receive global recognition in the QS rankings, ensuring students, staff and alumni can be proud to be involved with one of the leading education providers in the world,” Professor Terry said.
Professor Jim Mienczakowski, Pro Vice-Chancellor and President of Curtin Malaysia and Chief Executive of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak), Curtin University’s largest international campus, said the University’s strong rankings are a clear indication of the quality of its related courses offered at the Malaysian campus.
They include the Bachelor of Science (Applied Geology); Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical, Petroleum, Civil and Construction, Electrical Power, Electronic and Communication, Environmental, Computer Systems and Mechanical Engineering; Bachelor of Technology (Computer Systems and Networking); Bachelor of Business Administration; Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance, and Bachelor of Arts (Mass Communication).
Students at Curtin Sarawak study courses identical to those at other Curtin campuses and enjoy similar learning experiences and support mechanisms as their counterparts in Australia. Furthermore, the degrees they earn at Curtin Sarawak are conferred directly by Curtin University and they are offered flexibility in completing their degrees, in which they can study part of their degrees at the main campus in Perth.
Curtin University is currently ranked in the top two per cent of universities worldwide in the Academic Ranking of World Universities. It also ranks highly in the QS World University Ranking and QS Top 50 under 50 ranking. It was also awarded five stars in the 2015 QS Stars University Ratings.
