Potential students can learn more about Curtin Sarawak on its Open Day
Posted date:Miri – 30 September 2016 – The tenth Open Day of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) this 8 October will be an ideal opportunity for potential students to experience the campus and find out more about its courses and facilities.
They are encouraged to visit the ‘Future Students Hub’ at the Recreation & Event Centre (Heron 3) from 10 am to 5 pm where student recruitment staff will advise them on courses and enrolment as well as scholarships offered by the university. They can also join guided tours of the campus to get a feel of campus life.
Curtin Sarawak, Curtin University’s largest international campus, offers a wide range of world-ranked Curtin undergraduate and postgraduate courses in engineering and science, business and the humanities, in addition to pre-university courses that feed directly into its undergraduate programmes.
From 2 pm to 3 pm, there will be a special session for parents where they meet the Dean of Students and members of the university’s counselling team to learn more about helping their children excel and adapting to life in university.
Representatives from Curtin’s main campus in Perth and branch campus in Singapore will also be on hand to advise potential students on further studies at their respective campuses.
In addition, there will be representatives of PTPTN and TEGAS and staff of Curtin Sarawak’s Scholarships & Loans Section to highlight study loans and scholarships, including the Curtin Sarawak Merit Scholarships for high achievers in the SPM, STPM, O-Level, A-Level and UEC examinations.
Secondary school students interested to join the Curtin Young Associates (CYA), Curtin Sarawak’s youth outreach programme under its marketing department and run by Curtin student volunteers and mentors, can enquire at the CYA booth at the ‘Future Students Hub’.
Membership in the CYA is open to students aged 15 to 19 throughout Sarawak. As members, they will benefit from up-to-date information on higher education, online academic support, useful study tips, updates on happenings and developments at Curtin Sarawak, as well as participation in activities and competitions exclusively for CYA members.
Visitors to the ‘Future Students Hub’ are also invited to view showcases of Curtin Sarawak’s Faculties of Engineering and Science, Business and Humanities, and the Curtin Sarawak Graduate School.
With interesting themes like ‘Engineer’s Land’, “Entrepreneur Hub’, ‘The Humanist’ and ‘Scholar’s Corner’, they will offer visitors a real hands-on experience participating in experiential activities like laboratory and TV studio simulations and interactive games. They also stand to collect interesting giveaways if they visit all the showcase booths.
The Curtin Sarawak Open Day is the most anticipated annual event at the Curtin Sarawak campus. Established in 2006, it has since become an annual fixture and a key event in the university’s calendar of student recruitment and brand-building. Close to 10,000 people attended last year’s event – its largest crowd ever.
Apart from the ‘Future Students Hub’, other attractions will include day-long live entertainment including a ‘Mr & Ms Curtin Contest’, lucky draws, and special event showcases like a powered paragliding demonstration, outdoor archery and radio-controlled boat races.
In addition, there will be over 40 food and beverage, retail and activity stalls operated by Curtin Sarawak’s student clubs, local hotels and businesses, and about 20 non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
