Curtin Malaysia PhD student Lee Mok Siang wins Young Researcher Award
Posted date:Miri – 5 October 2017 – PhD student Lee Mok Siang of Curtin University, Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) did his varsity proud by winning a Young Researcher Award at the recent International Conference on Innovative Research in Science, Technology and Management (ICIRSTM 2017) held at National University Singapore (NUS).
Lee was among four to receive the award, the other recipients being from Hindu University, India; Evalueserve SEZ, India; and Chulalongkorn University, Thailand.
About 140 participants from Australia, Austria, China, France, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Oman, South Africa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States and other countries presented their innovative research ideas and results at the two-day event.
Lee, who collaborated with teammates and fellow Curtin Malaysia academics Professor Goh Bean San, Dr. Hendra Gunawan Harno and Dr. Garenth Lim King Hann, presented his research project entitled ‘Bang-bang Iterations to Solve Unconstrained Optimisation Problems’ which has many applications in the field of engineering, business and biology.
During the course of the project development, Lee and teammates developed new ideas and methods to turn the initial concept of bang-bang iterations into an effective algorithm to solve unconstrained optimisation problems.
According to Professor Goh, the award is timely and the encouragement shown by international scholars at the conference will further motivate academic staff and research students of Curtin Malaysia to keep up their good work.
ICIRSTM 2017 was jointly organised for the first time in Singapore by the International Institute of Research and Journals (IIRAJ) and NUS. It was aimed at academicians, researchers, scientists, engineers and scholar students who are interested in the creation, exchange and dissemination of new ideas and knowledge for the use of technology, as well as research results about all aspects of science, technology and management.
The conference covered aspects such as computer science and application, electronics and electrical engineering, materials and mechanical engineering, civil and bio-technical sciences, basic science and management, and agricultural and animal science.
The delegates shared and discussed their research ideas extensively throughout the event which was held at NUS’ new education hub facilities, the University Town (UTown).
