Curtin’s star continues to shine on world stage

Miri – 18 September 2017 – Curtin University continues to rise in the world university rankings with the University now ranked as one of the top 400 global institutions in the 2018 Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THWUR).

Curtin has risen into the 351-400 band, up from 401-500 previously, positioning the University equal 22nd nationally in Australia.

Curtin University Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor John Cordery said Curtin’s role as a leading global university has been further strengthened with the release of the latest rankings from the Times Higher Education.

“Curtin’s notable performances were in citations and research productivity, which reflects the increase in papers published by our academics in quality peer-reviewed journals and income earned to undertake research,” Professor Cordery said.

“We also improved our standing in the Teaching pillar results through an increase in the number of doctorates awarded per academic staff member, demonstrating the University’s commitment to attracting and training the next generation of leading researchers and academics.”

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings are released annually, comparing more than 1,500 universities across the globe.

Last month, Curtin University was ranked in the top one per cent of universities worldwide according to the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2017.

“We at Curtin Malaysia are extremely proud to be a part of this achievement and in all of Curtin’s recent achievements in the global rankings, including being at an estimated 180th position globally in the ARWU, placing 22nd in the 2018 edition of the QS Top 50 under 50 ratings, and rising to 262 position in the highly-acclaimed QS World University Rankings 2017-18.
