Lightopia 2017 at Curtin Malaysia campus part of Miri May Fest celebrations

Miri – 17 May 2017 – Members of the public in Miri have the option to celebrate Miri May Fest, the celebration of Miri’s declaration as a city in 2005, by visiting Lightopia 2017, a 3-day light festival featuring creative light displays at Curtin University, Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) on 26 to 28 May 2017.

Billed as ‘Miri’s first-ever light festival’, Lightopia 2017 is organised by the Curtin Malaysia Student Council. It is endorsed by the Miri City Council and is part of the Miri May Fest 2017 calendar of events. It also doubles as a charitable event as proceeds from the sale of tickets to the event will be donated to the Sarawak Society for the Blind.

The highlight of the event will be 1,500 stalks of LED ‘flower lights’ in a four-leaf clover array across the outdoor venue, the leaves representing love, luck, hope and faith respectively.

Other attractions include three light show sections with different themes – Time Tunnel, The Forest and The Caves; live band and other performances at the main stage, night market and sensory dining. The event will start from 6.00 pm to 10.30 pm nightly. Capping off Lightopia 2017 will be a fireworks display and LED balloons launch on the final day.

Early bird tickets to the event priced at RM20 per person, RM15 per student or RM60 for a family package which can be purchased at Inbox at the Permaisuri Imperial City Mall or the Lightopia 2017 promotional booth at the main entrance of Bintang Megamall on weekends.
