Miri – 17 May 2017 – A number of events have been held at the campus of Curtin University, Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) lately, including its annual International Festival (i-Fest), Inwinccible-X and IEEE Digital Maker Expo, all organised by students and open to the local public.
More exciting events are in the pipeline and they include the upcoming FITMIX boot camp on 20 May 2017 featuring popular Malaysian YouTubers Joanna Soh and Talitha Tan.
The fitness event, the first of its kind to be held in Miri, is being organised by Humanitarian Affairs Curtin Malaysia Student Chapter (HACM), a student-run non-profit organisation at the university focused on championing human rights issues while empowering youth to take more active roles in humanitarian and community service.
According to HACM, FITMIX is a one-day fitness boot camp aimed at getting people to ‘get up and work out’ and at the same time raise awareness of Article 25 of United Nation’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights in relation to health services and human health, as well as women and their increasingly active roles in modern society.
Soh and Tan will host the event, which will be held from 6.00 am to 3.00 pm at the university’s football field, as instructor and emcee respectively.
Joanna Soh is a prominent health and fitness coach and YouTuber. She is Asia’s top Fitness YouTube personality and winner of the Influence Asia 2017 Top Health and Fitness Influencer Award, having created over 200 videos covering workouts to recipes and fitness tips that are watched by viewers across the world.
Meanwhile, Talitha Tan is a talented singer-songwriter and musician with a loyal following on YouTube and an impressive list of gigs under her belt, in addition to being a Parkour athlete. Inspired by musicians who found their fame online like Tyler Ward and Kina Grannis, Tan started posting covers on her YouTube channel six years ago and has since made her mark as part of a new generation of local YouTube musicians who are changing the Malaysian music scene.
Participants of FITMIX will engage in fitness activities such as cardio and Zumba sessions as well as a variety of rigorous fitness drills.
For a participation fee of RM65, participants will be provided breakfast and lunch along with a goodie bag and T-shirt. There is also a group rate of RM275 for groups of five persons.
Those interested to participate can contact Jacklyn Liew at 012-610 6363 or Derek Stanley Guang at 019-819 9454.
