Curtin Business School to organise Business Plan Competition for secondary schools

Align with the ninth Malaysian Plan, Curtin Sarawak Business School collaborates with Miri Education Department by opening the door to secondary school students to reveal their business skill talent by organising Entrepreneurial Competition. The competition is organised in line with Malaysian Higher Education’s objectives in support of the Government’s aspiration to foster a knowledgeable society.

Among those schools who have confirmed their participation are SMK Lopeng Tengah, SMK Taman Tunku, SMK Chung Hua Miri, SMK Merbau, SMK Dato Permaisuri, SMK Agama Miri, Sekolah Menengah Sains Miri. This competition will prepare students to engage in the competitive yet challenging vast environment at University level.

The objectives of the competition are to develop critical and creative thinking skills such as problem solving and decision making. Students will also have the opportunity to instil leadership skills and team work among young generation. Thus, it develops effective professional skills in communication (writing, interpersonal interactions, cultural awareness and presentation skill) apart from promoting Information Technology literacy. Such competition will also enable students to develop writing and decision-making skills. Most importantly, it promotes the usage and fluency in mastering English Language.

Stage one of judging criteria will be based on creativity, presentation, writing ability, understanding of business principles and strategy, where as stage two focuses on presentation skills.

It is crucial that submitted business plan is original which has not been previously published and reflect or represent any current business organisation. All business plans received will be judged by a panel comprising Curtin Sarawak lecturers from different disciplines. The plan must be written in English.

First prize winner will be receiving RM1,000 cash and trophy, where as second prize is RM750 cash and trophy and third prize is RM500 cash and trophy. Two consolation prizes will be given RM200. A certificate of participation will be awarded to all participants.
