Curtin Malaysia Career Fair connects job-seekers with potential employers

Miri – 27 October 2017 – The recent 2-day Curtin Malaysia Career Fair 2017 at Curtin University, Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) helped connect over 900 soon-to-graduate students and alumni of the university and members of the public with over 30 participating employers from throughout Malaysia.

The employers included a number of big names in Malaysian commerce and industry like Crowe Horwath, Ernst & Young, KPMG, Gamuda Berhad, Keyence Malaysia, PETRONAS, Shell Malaysia, Shimano Components and Top Glove Corporation.

Sarawak-based companies comprised Dai Lieng Machinery, Great Advisor Group, HGST Malaysia, Longi (Kuching) Sdn. Bhd., Noble AV Partners, Press Metal, Samling Group of Companies, Sarawak Energy Berhad, Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad, Pertama Ferroalloys, Sarawak Information Systems and Subur Tiasa Holdings Berhad.

Completing the list were A’Famosa Resort Hotel, ACCA Malaysia, CPA Australia, Confluence Contours, Infinity Abroad, Inter Island Manpower, Plexus Manufacturing Satami Enterprise, SELLBYTEL Services Malaysia, Teach For Malaysia, TimesConsult and TMF Trust Labuan Limited.

In addition to meeting and engaging with job-seekers, several companies conducted on-the-spot interviews and made job offers. There were also career talks delivered by recruitment staff of PETRONAS Floating LNG and Sarawak Energy Berhad.

In her welcoming speech during the launch of the fair, Curtin Malaysia Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Beena Giridharan remarked that the event was part of the university’s commitment to providing internship placements for students in their penultimate year and job opportunities for final-year students even before they graduate.

She said that as Curtin University’s largest international campus and global hub in Asia and a leading tertiary institution in Malaysia, Curtin Malaysia is proud to produce quality, job-ready graduates who can work effectively across different cultures and disciplines and are capable of making significant contributions to industry.

Professor Giridharan said stakeholders in industry and the corporate sector have an important role to play in providing internship opportunities for students to supplement and enrich their studies, in giving them exposure and first-hand experience of the various professions, and job opportunities when they graduate.
