Curtin Malaysia’s Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Beena Giridharan, commented that the Curtin Malaysia Internship and Placement Fair remains very relevant despite the global pandemic. She said the number of participating employers has increased by 50 per cent over last year, showing that the outlook for the job market still looks positive. Over 100 vacancies are being offered during the fair and over 30 employers are offering internships.

“Though openings may be limited compared to previous years, there are still job opportunities for new graduates and internship openings for students, and while some employers might not be hiring immediately, they are scouting for suitable talent for the immediate future,” Professor Giridharan commented.

Professor Giridharan said a virtual fair has its advantages whereby job-seekers can participate at their leisure anytime over the five days and from anywhere in the world.

“Most of our students and alumni are spread across Malaysia and the world right now, in their home towns and cities, due to the pandemic. Despite this, they can still actively seek work and internship opportunities during the fair,” she said.

The Curtin Malaysia Internship and Placement Fair website, which will be live from 19 to 23 October, will feature pages with profiles of the participating companies, the positions they are offering, their hiring criteria and procedures, and their contact details. Participants can contact the companies directly or engage with their representatives live on various online platforms such as webinars and chatrooms.

Those interested to participate in the fair can pre-register now by completing and submitting the online registration form at career.curtin.edu.my/ipf2020registrationform/. There is no participation fee.

Those who register early will have early access to the website. They will receive the access link and password to the website at their registered email addresses three days before the start of the fair, while others will receive theirs one day before.

Formerly known as the Curtin Malaysia Career Fair, the fair is organised by the Career & Alumni Services section of Curtin Malaysia’s Department of University Life and is one of the biggest and much-anticipated events in Curtin Malaysia’s yearly calendar of events. Hundreds of job-seekers attend each year, including about 800 last year. As this year’s event will be online, participation is expected to be even higher.

For job-seekers, it is a great opportunity to engage with a large assemblage of potential employers, or simply to find out more about employment in various industries. Meanwhile, for the employers, it is an opportunity to promote their companies to a wider market, in addition to attracting potential employees from Miri and other locations.

The Curtin Malaysia Internship and Placement Fair 2020 will be live online from 19 – 23 October.
