Curtin Sarawak presents Best Research Paper and Best Researcher Award of the year

Thursday, 3 January 2008 – Two academic staff of Curtin University of Technology Sarawak (Curtin Sarawak) was recently awarded the Best Research Paper and Best Researcher Paper Award.

“Building research capability and building reputation for quality research are the two major objectives of Curtin Sarawak’s 2007-2010 Research and Development Strategic Plan,” said Professor John Evans, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Curtin Sarawak.

To facilitate the attainment of these strategic objectives, the university established new research incentives for academic staff in 2007 with

the Best Research Paper and the Best Researcher Awards being two among them,” he added further.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor of Curtin Sarawak constituted the award Selection Committees with members of appropriate expertise.

The Committees met to finalize the selection criteria, scoring format

and work procedure.

The Best Research Paper award was evaluated under the categories of content and medium of publication. The Best Researcher award was evaluated under the main categories of research publications, research supervision, research projects and grants, esteem and impact, and research leadership.

After thorough evaluation, the committee recommended Dr. Yudi Samyudia, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering for the Best Researcher Award and in the Best Research Paper category, the committee recommended Dr. Alexander Gorin of the Department of Mechanical Engineering for his paper titled “Transport phenomena in turbulent separated and reattached flows”.
