Curtin Sarawak’s Science and Engineering Conference draws international participation

Miri – 12 November 2008 –Over 100 participants from various countries including Malaysia, Australia, Egypt, India, Iran, Myanmar and Singapore are expected to converge on Miri for the Curtin University of Technology Science and Engineering International Conference (CUTSE 2008) from 24 to 27 November 2008.

It is being hosted by the School of Engineering and Science of Curtin University of Technology, Sarawak Malaysia (CSM) at its campus in collaboration with the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Miri Branch, to promote sustainable technology and innovative research in the 21st Century.

Themed “Excellence Through Innovation”, the conference provides an effective platform for the dissemination of information on the most recent and relevant innovations, theories and practices in engineering and the sciences, and where a constructive dialog on theoretical concepts, practical ideas and state-of-the-art technology will be deliberated.

According to Curtin Sarawak’s Vice Pro Chancellor Prof. Dr. John Evans, who is also the conference patron, the high-impact research and development oriented conference holds great significance in terms of transfer of technology and the accelerated development of the R&D sector in this region.

“This international conference is excellent for researchers, engineers, scientists, academicians, industry professionals and students to network and share their findings, and also initiate further collaborative research in their respective fields,” says Evans.

Approximately 150 papers on a variety of subjects, including research in aerospace engineering, civil and constructional engineering, chemical engineering, computer and communications engineering, mechanical engineering, applied physics, mathematics, chemistry, environmental science, petroleum geology and other geosciences will be presented during the 4-day multi-session conference.

The conference is being supported by Shell, Petronas and Murphy Oil, and a specialised session on petroleum issues on the first day will see key papers on various aspects of the petroleum industry being presented by industry professionals.
