Curtin Student Council unleashes the Power of Youth

Student Council of Curtin University of Technology, Sarawak Campus will be holding the 2008 Curtin Carnival “Unleashing Youth” within the campus grounds in Miri on 30th August. The event is open to the public and starts at 10.30 am until 8.00 pm.
This event is organized in collaboration and in conjunction with the 2008 Youth Day celebration organized by the University Life Department of Curtin University Sarawak. This event will showcase the diverse culture and vibrant lifestyle of the Curtin community to the visitors.
The Student Council, with the student clubs, has organized many different fun-filled activities throughout the event day. This includes performances by the Curtin Cheerleading Club, Chinese Yo-yo (‘chě líng’) demonstrations and performances, game stalls, lucky draws, and of course food and beverage stalls by the participating clubs.
The Student Council has also specially invited a professional tattoo artist, Jeremy of Monkey Tattoo, from Kuching who will showcase the Traditional Borneo Style-Tapping and BorneoFitness.com, a fitness, nutrition and training portal which provides free information and consultation services, which will showcase body builders and fitness enthusiasts.
The students of the John Curtin Leadership Academy (JCLA) will also be participating in this event with the objective to raise funds for their community charity project. They will open two booths where the first will run an event named ‘Balls for Charity’ which comprises of multiple mini-games using balls of different types. The second booth will showcase, Project Care – Mission To Long Makabar, a documentary of the people of Long Makabar as well as some mini-games.
For the Youth Day celebration, six competitions have been organized by the University Life for students from middle schools and higher institutions. The competitions are creative graffiti, photography, creative blog, T-shirt design, short film, and the most outstanding youth competition. There is also a chess tournament which is co-organized by the Curtin Gamerz Club.
