They are mostly financially aided by oil and gas organisations such as Shell, Murphy Oil and Petronas. Apart from scholar students, numbers of individually funded Bumiputra students are escalating annually.

Bumiputra students can also opt for loan schemes. Yayasan Sarawak provides full-loan scheme to Curtin students to assist them in their tuition fees. “Yayasan Sarawak offers full amount of loan to students. We believe by practising full loan scheme, students are more motivated to pursue their studies in Curtin. On top of tuition fees, additional two thousand ringgit allowance is given to each of successful applicants”, said Deputy Director, Yang Berbahagia En. Samat Junai.

One of the advantages of studying at Curtin Sarawak is that classes are conducted only in English.

According to Bibi Aminah, Director, Pre-University School, “Students who are weak in English Language are advised to undergo an Intensive English Program (IEP) to improve their English proficiency before proceeding to Foundation or Degree programs,” she said.

Students are trained to be independent in order to acquire communication skills and how to apply their knowledge effectively. “Most Curtin graduates are employed upon graduation; in fact, we receive positive feedback from their employers,” said Director, School of Business Shamsul Kamariah.

Dr. Chua Han Bing, Director, School of Engineering and Science share the joy of four Chemical Engineering graduates who have won William MacNab Award for excellence in design entitled – Floating Gas to Liquid Technology. “MacNab Award is presented to individuals who have provided the best answer for meeting a defined standard of excellence to IChemE (Institute of Chemical Engineering) Individual Design Project since 1935.”

”Articulate students are able to provide mature reflection on their learning experiences and valuable input to the processes of continuous quality improvement,” he added further.

Curtin University Sarawak (CSM) is a campus of Curtin University Perth, Australia. The wide range of courses currently available on the Sarawak Campus is identical to the courses offered at the main University’s Perth campus. “There are already a number of masters and doctoral students studying at the Sarawak campus taking advantage of the unique opportunities that Sarawak has to offer,” claimed Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor John Evans.
