Dr. Chan tells Varsity Students to have zest for life

Sunday 31 August 2008 –

Life is not all about making money, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi George Chan said.

“Life is also about making new friends from different countries and cultures. It is about contributing back to society,” Dr. Chan added.

He said this at the Curtin Carnival and Youth Day celebration at its campus here yesterday.

Infrastructure Development and Communication Assistant Minister Lee Kim Shin, pro-vice chancellor and chief executive officer of Curtin Sarawak Professor John Evans and Dean Associate Professor Dr. Joan Gribble were among those present.

Dr. Chan told the university students to live life to the fullest saying: “You must have the zest for life. It is not all about study, study, study.”

“We must have the time to make ourselves and others around us happy by having innovative ideas of having fun as was clearly evident from the carnival organised by the Student Council.

“I wish to commend the Student Council for playing a significant role in improving the campus life of the students in this university,” he said.

Dr. Chan noted that organising events such as the Curtin Carnival involved much time, planning and effort, adding that an event such as that helped the various students clubs to raise fund and thus help to grow.
