Entrepreneurial Workshop for Curtin Students

Wednesday, 19 March 2008 – Curtin University of Technology Sarawak Campus and CRADLE Investment Program group recently organised an entrepreneurial workshop for students. The workshop is part of the University’s effort to grow graduate attributes in its students.

The one-day long workshop provided students, from different majors, the opportunity to come together to explore innovative ideas that could potentially be commercialised. The groups are then required to draw up a business plan and to pitch their ideas to a panel of potential investors.

The workshop was attended by approximately sixty-seven students. The students were exposed to the concept of commercialisation igniting in many of them the drive and interest to develop ideas into businesses.

Student, Shae Nee said, “Although I am a geology student, I’ve always had the interest in applying my technical knowledge into a tangible prototype. As a student, I am taught to be innovative and independent. I would really want to be an inventor one day and apply my idea into a successful business.”

Cradle Investment Programme is established to provide financial funding, mentorship and guidance for new entrepreneurs.

“My team is very pleased with the overwhelming response from Curtin students. They are a group of enthusiastic and interactive young people. I am delighted that the students propose to submit their final year project as a business proposal. It is really a good start for the students”, said Ellynita Hazlina Lamin, Strategy and Initiatives Manager of CIP.

Workshops and seminars as such are on-going activities organised by the University Life @ Curtin. The activities are designed to shape Curtin students to be critical thinkers and life long learners. For more information, please email universitylife@curtin.edu.my
