Improve your English at Curtin

Over one hundred new students attend an Intensive English Programme (IEP) sharing session with their seniors.

The gathering, organised by the Learning Centre, is intended to motivate the new students and create awareness of what can be expected in the IEP Programme.

Lee Peng of China says, “Make friends with English speaking peers. Don’t speak your mother tongue as it will only slow down your English learning progress. Watch movies with English subtitles. Speak, listen and think in English every day.”

Foundation Engineering Irani student, Syed Omid, exclaims, “You will be trained in many modules in IEP. They include listening, speaking and writing skills. This has helped me cope in my foundation studies which require more writing and speaking. I’m glad I attended IEP first before proceeding to Foundation.”

Johor lad, Joseph Ng, claims he had never spoken English prior to enrolling in IEP. “Coming from a Chinese speaking background, it was difficult for me to blend in an English major University. Nonetheless, I am now in my final year degree programme. IEP was my stepping stone to degree level.”

The Director of the Learning Centre , Malar Jayaprakash, says that IEP is designed to improve general English language proficiency and it specifically caters for potential tertiary education students who lack the English language entry requirements.
