Miri School Students participated in a Four Day Workshop on Video Productions on Environmental Issues collaboratively organised by researchers from USM Penang and Curtin Sarawak

University Science Malaysia and Curtin Sarawak researchers have conducted a four-day workshop from 19th August to 22nd August on video productions on environment issues for secondary school students in Miri. The workshop was held at Curtin University of Technology Sarawak in which forty secondary students from SMK Merbau and SMK Pujut attended this workshop.
The workshop showcased a short video production by a group of researchers showcasing of short video productions by a group of researchers from USM and Curtin Sarawak who are working together with secondary school students to enhance learning about the environment in interesting and engaging ways.
The workshop has organised in order to inspire ordinary students to be involved in environment media work where students will plan and design short video productions on the environment.
The project amplified youth voice, provided a means of expression and allow students to communicate to far broader audiences than they might reach in their classrooms.
Students acquired skills that enabled them to access, analyze, evaluate and create messages in visual media.
Through this workshop, students developed essential skills of inquiry, an understanding of the role of visual media and self-expression necessary for citizens of today’s world. They learnt the power of visual images and how to design and read them.
Apart from that, students learnt to engage and connect in new learning environments that enable them to think and act as collaborative team players who will build and publish knowledge in creative and critical ways.
