New Media Technology Workshop – Free

Wednesday 28 May 2008 –

In response to the growing importance of New Media in social, educational, cultural, political and economic spheres, Curtin University of Technology, Miri, Sarawak will conduct a first of its kind New Media workshop in Miri on the 5th June, 2008 at its Lutong campus.

This workshop on ‘New Media Technologies’ to be organized by the University’s Department of Mass Communication. This workshop on New Media will train and familiarize the journalists, professionals, and all those who are active in the public life; on the art of Blogging.

Sean Ang, An active Blogger and software engineer, develops ICT curriculum for activists in the Southeast Asia.

Previously, with MIMOS Berhad, HCI in Malaysia. Sean is instrumental in developing ICT policy for 8th Malaysia Plan, Currently IT Advisor for Ministry of Housing and Local Government, Selangor State Government and Ministry of Science and Technology. Presented papers at international arenas.

Rachel Chan, Program Administrator and Web Editor for SEACEM. Contributes for various online media. Rachel’s academic background is in Sociology and has written on Virtual Ethnography.

The one day workshop will be held on Thursday 5th of June, will commence from 9:30AM – 12:30PM. Second session would commence from 02:00PM – 05:00PM.

Entry to the work shop is totally free. Only 30 seats are available. First come first serve is the selection criteria. Lunch and snacks will be provided to the participants.
