Top 5 Curtin Sarawak Students Offered Western Australian Government and Curtin University of Technology Scholarship
Posted date:MIRI, Thursday, 3 February 2005 – Five top Curtin Sarawak students are offered one of Curtin University’s most prestigious awards, the Western Australian Government and Curtin University of Technology Scholarship, allowing them to complete the final year of their undergraduate degree program in Bentley Campus in Perth. The scholarship is part of the Western Australian Government’s effort to foster better ties with Sarawak. The WA Government contributes AUD 5,000 for each scholarship that covers return airfare, traveling expenses and on-campus accommodation, while Curtin University of Technology contributes by granting full tuition fee waiver for one year of study.
The selection of students was based on their excellent academic performance throughout the whole course of study at Curtin Sarawak. The five recipients of the scholarship are:
Ho Chai Mey, Corrina – Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing & E-Commerce)
Chong Fang Tyng – Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing & E-Commerce)
Foong Jun Li, Andrew – Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical)Eng
Seow Hwang – Bachelor of Engineering (Electronic & Communication)
Tan Sin Ying – Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical)
The recipients who will be leaving for Perth on February 11th were given a pre-departure briefing and equipped with the information about Sarawak as they are not just completing their degree program but also to become the ambassador of the Sarawak campus and the State in general.
The scholarship was presented to the students by YB (Dr) Lee Kim Shin, Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Development and Communication, Sarawak, who is also the Chairman of the Management Board of the university.
Meanwhile, on a related issue, all the shortlisted applicants for Curtin Foundation Scholarship Scheme and Curtin First Year Degree Scholarship for Feb/March intake 2005 will be called for interview beginning next week. Offering these scholarships are part the University’s effort to provide assistance and incentive to students, and increase the participation of those who demonstrate high academic achievement but come from low socio-economic background.
