Curtin Sarawak Second Phase Development in Full Progress
Posted date:MIRI, 20 February 2005 – “The first part of the second phase development of Curtin Sarawak Campus is expected to be completed in June 2006”, said YB (Dr) Lee Kim Shin during a meeting conducted with the developer, TAK Consultants and Curtin Perth Properties Executive General Manager, Mr Martin Dunleavy last Wednesday. The planning, design and submission for the entire second phase development of the university have been on-going since early this year and the actual construction work is expected to begin in the near future.
Professor Graham Lodwick, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Curtin Sarawak, said that an extensive consultative process was conducted with each operational unit of the University. It provides recommendation lists that are considered as the “best mix” to add necessary buildings and facilities to cater for a population of 3000 students and an increasing number of staff for the projected growth.
The recommendations for this second phase development include a multi-purpose hall, a student centre, a bookshop, a new cafeteria, more teaching facilities including two lecture theatres with 300 and 150 seating capacity, as well as a purpose-built child care centre. The entire second phase development costs more than RM20 Million. Not only does Curtin Sarawak offer a unique international and cross-cultural learning experience, but it also is committed to maintaining high academic standards and places great emphasis on modern technology, as well as facilities to support teaching, learning and research.
Also present during the discussion were Associate Professor Dr Barbara Stauble, the Acting Dean and Dr Adeline Wong, the Academic Registrar.
