Curtin’s O–Week to Last Till March 5
Posted date:MIRI, 22 February 2005 – “Participate actively in university life”, said Curtin Sarawak Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Graham Lodwick in his welcoming address to all new students enrolling for the February/March intake. Professor Lodwick officially opened the Orientation Week 2005 in the presence of 80 new undergraduate degree students and staff, which began on Monday, 21 Feb and end the following Saturday, 5 March.
During the O-Week the new students will engage themselves in various settling-down activities, which include registration and introduction to the University’s academic policies, familiarization with the campus environment, joining in ice-breaker games, attending study skills and motivation talks. Students are also encouraged to join numerous social and sporting activities, and whatever opportunities to enhance their experience in university education and increase their circle of friends.
Curtin Sarawak currently has 1300 students enrolled in various academic programs of which 20 percent are international students from over 30 different nationalities. Not only does Curtin Sarawak is committed in maintaining excellence in teaching and learning, but it also provides a range of facilities, services, international experience and community involvement that add much greater depth to the students’ learning and understanding and ultimately increase their sense of personal achievement.

To mark the closing of the Undergraduate Degree program and Foundation O-Week, the Curtin Sarawak Student Council will be organizing a one-day program called “Miri from Dawn to Dusk”, which combines the Miri City Tour, Beach Retreat and O-Nite. This event, which will be held on Saturday, 5 March from 11am till 10pm, is specially planned for our new students to assist them with the transition into university life, the local culture and their new surrounding.
