Curtin Malaysia hosting ‘Industry 4.0 Awareness Programme’ on 5 November

Miri – 25 October 2018 – The Faculty of Engineering and Science of Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) is organising a one-day ‘Industry 4.0 Awareness Programme’ with support and funding from the Sarawak Ministry of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development and Sarawak Multimedia Authority.

It will be held at Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Engineering and Science building (Skylark 3) on 5 November 2018, from 8.30 am to 5 pm.

The objective of the awareness training programme is to introduce the concept of Industry 4.0 to local industries in Sarawak and encourage the adoption of automation and data exchange technologies. Local industry and business representatives and members of the public from Sarawak are invited to attend and participation is free of charge.

Discussions during the programme will focus around three themes – ‘What is Industry 4.0?’, ‘How can it help with my product and process?’ and ‘How to adopt Industry 4.0 in my industry?’.

The programme will kick off with opening remarks by Curtin Malaysia Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Professor Jim Mienczakowski and a talk entitled ‘Introduction to Industry 4.0 and its Implications to Industries including SMEs’ by Ho Nee Shen, Software Project Lead of Intel Malaysia.

This will be followed by a talk on ‘Getting Started on Industry 4.0 – The Transformation Journey of SMEs’ by Wilson Deng, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Arcstone Pte. Ltd., Singapore.

Both talks will be followed by a question and answer session and a networking lunch.

In the afternoon, there will be projects showcase by students of Curtin Malaysia featuring the ‘Smart Metering for Energy Saving’, ‘IoT for Green Wall’, and ‘Blockchain Technology for Document Preservation’ projects.

This will be followed by parallel workshops and interactive sessions facilitated by representatives from Intel Malaysia and Schneider Electric (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.

The parallel workshops will include demonstrations and case studies discussion by the three companies, and discussions on identifying problems and potential improvement areas in the production, marketing and management process.

There will also be brainstorming of strategies and possible implementation of Industry 4.0 digital data exchange and automation as solutions to the problems, where the participants will be divided into three groups focusing on the Shipping, Energy, Oil and Gas Industries; Wood-processing, Construction, Logistics and Palm Oil Industries; and Manufacturing, Food-processing and Agriculture Industries, respectively.
