Curtin Malaysia hosts international conference on aeronautical, aerospace and mechanical engineering
Posted date:Miri – 17 July 2018 – The recent 2018 International Conference on Aeronautical, Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AAME 2018) held at Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) proved to be an effective platform to showcase and discuss current technologies in aeronautical, aerospace and mechanical engineering.
Conference chair Associate Professor Vincent Lee Chieng Chen, who is deputy dean of Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Engineering and Science, said the three-day conference offered the ideal avenue for the international delegates to initiate collaborative research in these areas.
The delegates comprised academics and researchers from across Asia and South Africa, including representatives of highly reputable institutions such as National University of Singapore, Civil Aviation University of China, and Nanjing University of Science and Technology.
AAME is a collaboration between Curtin Malaysia, University of Malaya, and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. Supporting the conference this year was the Sarawak Convention Bureau.
Keynote speakers for the conference included Professor Ir. Mohd Hamdi Bin Abd Shukor of University of Malaya; Professor Nawaf Hazim Saeid of University of Technology Brunei; Associate Professor Sujan Debnath of Curtin Malaysia; Professor Andrew Ragai Henry Rigit of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak; and Professor Rosli Bin Ahmad and Professor Anika Zafiah Mohd. Rus of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the research papers presented covered various key research areas with specific themes such as Mechatronics and Control System, and New Functional Material Design and Analysis.
According to Associate Professor Lee, the junior researchers attending the conference benefited greatly from discussions on their findings and the opportunity to gain valuable industry insights from the keynote speakers, who are all experts in their respective fields.
“In additional to fostering collaboration among the participants, the conference inspired the junior researchers to undertake more meaningful and application-oriented research,” he said.
All accepted full papers from the conference will be published in the Materials Science, Engineering and Chemistry (MATEC) Web of Conferences, an open access publication series dedicated to archiving conference proceedings dealing with all fundamental and applied research aspects related to materials science, engineering and chemistry.
Curtin Malaysia postgraduate student Hoe Chen Hou was presented the conference’s ‘Best Presentation Award’ for his paper presentation entitled ‘Chatter Behaviour in the Milling Process of Inconel 718: Effects of Tool Edge Radius’.
