Curtin Malaysia jubilant at Curtin’s very impressive 20th place globally in QS Top 50 Under 50
Posted date:Miri – 27 June 2018 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia), Curtin University’s Malaysian campus, is jubilant that Curtin has been ranked among the world’s top 20 young universities in the 2019 edition of the QS Top 50 Under 50 ranking.
The ranking, which measures the world’s best universities under 50 years of age, positions Curtin University at 20th in the world, an increase of two places since last year.
Curtin Malaysia’s Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Professor Jim Mienczakowski said he was glad Curtin continues to establish itself as a leading young university on the world stage.
He also said that Curtin Malaysia, Curtin’s largest international campus and global hub in Asia, is proud to be a part of a truly global university with campuses in Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai and Mauritius, as well as course delivery through more than 90 partner institutions worldwide.
“Even though Curtin is a young university by global standards, it is rapidly expanding its global footprint and continues to prove itself on the world stage by rising in the international rankings,” Professor Mienczakowski said.
He added that as Curtin Malaysia prepares to mark its 20th anniversary next year, Curtin University’s upward trajectory in the world rankings augurs well for the campus’ standing as the highest-ranked global university campus in Borneo and the largest Australian international campus in the world.
Curtin’s strong global reputation has seen it rise phenomenally up the international rankings in recent years. It is now ranked in the top one per cent of universities worldwide in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2017 and recently rose to 250 in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2018-19.
It was also listed the 68th university under 50 in the world in the 2018 Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings, up from 84th position last year, and received a five-star overall excellence rating in the QS Stars rating.
In addition, Curtin’s worldwide focus has resulted in it being ranked one of the world’s most international universities in 2016 by Times Higher Education.
In Malaysia, Curtin Malaysia has continued to hold its strong position as one of the country’s best tertiary institutions with renewal of its outstanding Tier 5 (Excellent) rating in the Malaysian Rating System for Higher Education Institutions (SETARA), and a similar rating for its engineering programmes in the discipline-based D-SETARA, in 2017. It is the only university rated for engineering excellence in East Malaysia.
With over 4,000 students from over 50 different countries and internationally-recruited staff from some 15 countries strengthening its global focus, Curtin Malaysia offers an international and cross-cultural learning environment in a unique Malaysian setting.
Other than location and the fact that it charges very affordable Malaysian fees for courses that are identical to those offered by Curtin in Australia, students at Curtin Malaysia get the same education and learning experience as their counterparts at the main campus in Perth.
As part of a global university, they can also choose to study part of their courses, complete their undergraduate degrees, or undertake a further degree at another Curtin campus. Upon graduation, they will join an active network of over 215,000 Curtin alumni spread across the world.
Enrolment for Curtin Malaysia’s July/August (Semester 2) intake is now open and potential students can enquire about the course by logging into bit.ly/2iPcTOL. Details can also be found at courses.curtin.edu.my.
