Future students can learn more about Curtin Malaysia at Curtin Malaysia Carnival 2018

Miri – 8 August 2018 – Curtin University Malaysia’s (Curtin Malaysia) Carnival 2018 this 25 August 2018 will be an ideal opportunity for future students of all ages to discover everything they need to know about the world’s largest Australian international campus here in Malaysia.

Curtin Malaysia is also the largest of Curtin University’s international campuses located in Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai and Mauritius, as well as its global hub for education and research in Asia.

Visiting students, including those from neighbouring Brunei and Sabah, are encouraged to visit the ‘Future Students Hub’ at the campus’ Recreation & Event Centre from 10 am to 5 pm for first-hand information about courses, scholarships, enrollment, facilities and more.

Curtin Malaysia offers a wide range of courses in engineering and science, business and the humanities that are identical to those offered at Curtin’s main campus in Perth, in addition to pre-university courses that feed directly into its degree programmes.

Future students are assured of the best in course curriculum as testified by Curtin’s global subject rankings in the QS World University Rankings (QSWUR) by Subject and ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects.

Curtin University is ranked in the top one per cent of universities worldwide in the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2017 and 26th most international university in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016. The university is also placed 20th in a global review of institutions younger than 50 years old, according to the 2019 QS World University Rankings Top 50 Under 50 ranking.

In addition to marketing, faculty and student support staff of Curtin Malaysia, representatives of government scholarship and study loan providers will also be present at the ‘Future Students Hub’. Guided tours of the campus will be conducted from the Hub at scheduled times throughout the day.

Also at the Recreation and Event Centre will be the ‘Faculty Showcases’ – an annual crowd favourite showcasing Curtin Malaysia’s faculties and graduate school.

With interesting themes like ‘EngineerFEST’, ‘FOB Funfair’, ‘Humanities to the Rescue’ and ‘Element’s Realm’, the showcases will offer visitors hands-on, experiential activities like performing simple lab experiments and learning through interactive displays designed to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The emphasis in STEM will be carried over to the ‘STEM Exhibition’, which will feature fascinating exhibits demonstrating how engineering, science and technology is applied in our daily lives.

The Curtin Malaysia Carnival, formerly known as the Curtin Malaysia Open Day, is the most anticipated annual event at Curtin Malaysia and promises to give visitors an exciting taste of life at the campus in a festival-like atmosphere. First held in 2006, it has become an annual fixture and a key event in the university’s calendar of student recruitment and brand-building.

Each year, it attracts thousands of visitors and a sizeable crowd is expected again this year, including about 500 secondary school students from Miri, Sabah and Brunei.

Apart from the ‘Future Students Hub’, ‘Faculty Showcases’ and ‘STEM Exhibition’, there will be faculty-run competitions for secondary schools, including a Spelling Bee Challenge and Eco-Business Design Challenge. The signature competition will be the Curtin Croc Challenge 3.0, Curtin Malaysia’s iconic annual crocodile-themed electronic design competition.

There will also be perennial attractions like live entertainment and food, retail and activity stalls run by student clubs and local businesses, as well as a ‘Community Corner’ showcasing selected local government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

A highlight of the ‘Community Corner’ will be Curtin Malaysia’s annual GoBald Satellite Shave in aid of the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society which members of the university community and the larger community are invited to participate in.

New this year will be a Mini Kite Festival sponsored by the Bintulu Development Authority featuring large inflatable kites to promote the 14th Borneo International Kite Festival to be held in Bintulu next month. A similar demonstration of kite-flying was held in conjunction with the Curtin Malaysia Open Day back in 2010, drawing hundreds of spectators.

The Carnival is being supported by the Miri City Council for the ninth year, as well as by a number of corporate sponsors, including Astro Radio which will be featuring its popular Hitz Sarawak deejay Natasha Juan at a special booth for live on-air chats and promotions.
