Huge turnout for 7th Curtin Malaysia DPVC Cup

Miri – 10 November 2018 – Over 150 bowlers took part in the Curtin Malaysia Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor’s Cup bowling competition organised recently by the Curtin Bowling Club of Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia).

The competition, formerly known as the Curtin Open Bowling Competition, was the university’s seventh annual open competition at Megalanes East Bowling Centre Miri.

The main objective of the competition is to foster friendly ties between members of the university’s community of students, staff and alumni and the larger community, in addition to promoting bowling and the benefits of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

In the team category, team ‘Young Sifu’ comprising Mohd. Helmi Adham, Muhammad Ashraf Mansor, Mohd. Khairul Farhan Bukhari and Mohd. Zamrom Mohd. Nor won both first and second place. In third place was team ‘Mouseball’ comprising Salawaty Sahar, Nazrin Nasaruddin, Jerry Joe and Joharie Azrul.

The top three teams walked away with cash prizes, trophies and hampers whilst the fourth to tenth placed teams received trophies and bowling vouchers.

In the male individual category, Mohd. Khairul Farhan Bukhari came up tops, followed by Muhammad Hazeeq Suif and Joharie Azrul in second and third place.

The top prize in the female individual category went to Zurina Shahri, followed by second-placed Suriyati Abdul Rani and third-placed Hayati Haji Mohamad.

All the winners in the individual categories received trophies and cash prizes.

Meanwhile, the ‘Best Curtin Male Player’ and ‘Best Curtin Female Player’ titles were won by Adri Shahri and Siti Sabrena Safari respectively. Both received trophies and vouchers.

The ‘Best Curtin Team’ title was won by team ‘Wait’ comprising Adri Shahri, Abdur Rahim, Syafiq Shebli and Siti Sabrena Safari.

The ‘Best Curtin Alumni Player’ title was won by Pui Yit Hong and the prize for ‘Best Curtin Staff Player’ by Jameson Malang, who both received trophies.

The prizes were presented by Curtin Bowling Club advisor Jameson Malang and the club’s presidential department comprising Gerald Prawira, Hossameldin Radwan and Chang Hao Xuan.

The competition was sponsored by the management of Curtin Malaysia, its Student Services, Sports and Recreation Services and Career and Alumni Services departments, as well as the Curtin Malaysia Student Council. Local businesses Pujut 7 Thai Massage, Chickilicious, Jun Rong, Dan Casket and Funeral Services, McDonald’s, One Borneo Enterprise and Megalanes East Bowling Centre Miri also chipped in.
