Curtin Sarawak’s Library Equipped With New Electronic Resources

MIRI, 24 october 2005 – Recognising its commitment towards promoting excellence in teaching, learning and research in the field of education and also providing scholarly information and services, Curtin University of Technology, Sarawak (Curtin Sarawak) library is now equipped with up-to-date electronic resources.

Professor Dr Ruth Marquis, Dean, Curtin Sarawak said, “With these new facilities, we hope the new resources will be fully utilised. Since the establishment of the library in 2002 and as part of our community relations programme, the general public and local communities have assess to the facilities in our library”. Ms Levas Mejus, Head, Library & Information Service Department said, “The Library provides accessibility to a large range of electronic resources, including databases (accessible through Gecko: Gateway to Library databases or the A-Z Database List), E-BooksE-Journalsdigital theses and espace@Curtin : Curtin’s digital repository. The operating hours of the library can be assessed from our website”.

“We welcome the public and students age above 16 years to visit our library and view the huge resources available. Our operating hours can be assessed from our website. Our staff in the library provides assistance to visitors towards finding and gathering relevant information and evaluating information sources,” she continued.

The newly installed Gecko link, Library and Information Service website and Quick Links at Curtin Sarawak website can only be accessed by staff and students from Curtin Sarawak through Gecko, online resources are directly available from Curtin University Perth, Western Australia where organised scholarly information and relevant resources are easily accessible. Through Gecko, there is accessibility to 293 databases comprising of 19,348 titles on various subjects ranging from business, engineering, science, computer, health science, resources, environmental and humanities. The most popular databases are ProQuest 5000, InfoTrac OneFile, Informit Online, Science Direct, SwetsWise and more.

Besides databases, Curtin Sarawak’s staff and student can have full remote access to 12,830 online journals and 4,640 volumes of e-books too.
